Quebec Pension Plan

Responsibility: Régie des rentes du Québec

If you are a relative of a deceased person or his or her liquidator, you should know that the estate is entitled to the pension received by the beneficiary from the Régie des rentes du Québec for the month of death only. Here is what you must do:

If the pension was paid by cheque
You must return the beneficiary's cheque and include proof of death in the package.

If the pension was paid by direct deposit
You must ask the financial institution to credit the amount collected to the Régie.

In both cases, you will receive a new cheque in the name of the estate.

Upon death, benefits may be paid from the Quebec Pension Plan, a supplemental pension plan ("pension fund"), a locked-in retirement account (LIRA), a life income fund (LIF) or an annuity contract. In addition, this event may affect the payment of Child Support.
