Whether a death is sudden or expected, the loss of a loved one is indescribable. When you are in a heightened emotional state, even the most basic decisions can seem staggering. This section seeks to guide you through the immediate hours following a passing.

When death occurs, a simple phone call to our funeral home will insure that our professional team support you and your family in making all necessary funeral arrangements:

Death Certificate
At the time of death, it's up to the practicing doctor or the hospital to prepare a death certificate. A close relative has to sign a notification of death in the presence of a witness, and the document must be sent to the director of the registry office along with the health insurance card.
Make Funeral Arrangements
The funeral rituals have evolved rapidly in Ontario and Quebec. Your funeral home can advise you with your funeral arrangements. The main decisions to make consist of:
- choosing the funeral ritual;
- preparing the family visitation rooms at the funeral home, photo presentation, flowers; /li>
- deciding on the place and hour of the funeral, the religious services, the burial;
- choosing the coffin, the funerary urn;
- preparing the clothes of the deceased;
- composition of death notices and publication in local media;
- organizing the fleet of professional vehicles, the pallbearers, the funeral direction;
- choosing the cemetery plot, the columbarium, the monument;
- renting a reception hall, the caterer;
- providing donations cards for charitable causes;
- writing notices to the employers for social leave or motive of absence;
- transporting the deceased;
- handling death that occurs abroad or of criminal, violent or confused circumstances;
- provisions of the Act respecting labour standards concerning leave due to death or funeral of a loved one;
- Providing a photo for mortuary cards, death notices, bookmarks, video, etc.
Gather Required Documentation
Following death, six documents are of extreme importance that you should get quickly to help finalize most transactions. In almost all cases, institutions will ask that you supply recent original documents that they will give back after:
- Birth Certificate;
- Death Certificate;
- Will and testament;
- Marriage certificate or prenuptial agreement;
- Authorization to act as Executor.
Gather Required Information
The Executor should have at hand the following information as they will be required throughout the settlement of the estate with the reference numbers appropriate for every file (license, contract, customer numbers, etc.):
- Birth name of the deceased
- Social Insurance Number
- Place and date of birth
- Place and date of death
- Civil status
- Matrimonial status
- Birth name of the spouse
- Social Insurance Number of the spouse
- Place and date of birth of the spouse
- Place and date of marriage
- Place and date of the death of spouse (if applicable)
- Name of the legal heirs
- Name of the executor of the succession
- Mailing address of the succession
- Coordinates: telephone, fax, e-mail, etc.
