Liability: Various organizations

You should check to see if the deceased had any life insurance policies in his or her personal effects, safety deposit box, bank and credit card statements, employer(s) or professional associations.

As soon as you locate the insurance company, you should contact them immediately to notify them of the insured's death. If your search is unsuccessful, you can request a search from the OmbudService for Life and Health Insurance.

Please note that life insurance proceeds are not part of the estate.

Note: Only the notary, the liquidator of an estate or the administrator, the beneficiary or the direct heir of the deceased can request a search.
